Passion for Social Justice Drives Neighborcare Volunteers
2012's Volunteer Appreciation Week is winding down, but without one last chance to highlight how important volunteers are to helping Neighborcare advance its mission of health care equality. Many volunteers choose to commit their time, talents and treasures to Neighborcare because they share one of Neighborcare's core values, social justice. They, and Neighborcare staff, work every day towards a just society where excellent health is enjoyed by all.
As AmeriCorp member Jesus Iniguez explains for his reason for volunteering at Neighborcare:
"I love that I get to serve an organization that fights for social justice because it is simply the right thing to do. An organization that isn't driven by the need to pay out dividends. An organization that measures success more on how patient health improves rather than on how well it reaches its bottom line. An organization that doesn't turn people with the most needs away."
As Jesus starts to reach the end of his time serving as an AmeriCorps member and prepare to start medical school, he has forever been changed by the time he's spent volunteering to make society a place where excellent health, and resulting opportunities, are available to everyone.
